Caring for Pet Ferrets


Ferrets may not be a common choice of animals for pets, but these critters have been domesticated by man from way back in 4 BC. Many people find good to have ferrets and easier to maintain, if not easier, like other typical pets like dogs and cats. Here are some basic advice on the care of ferrets.

Making a House of Ferret
Ferrets prefer to live in areas that resemble dens in the wild. A wire cage that is about 30 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 18 inches long, it might be enough. Many ferrets live in cages as they have to climb things as ramps and stairs. The cage should allow good ventilation, therefore, it is not advisable to use the tanks.
The ground can be covered by linoleum and carpet tiles or other soft washable materials to make the floor more comfortable for ferrets to walk on wire floors. The cage must be kept within 55 to 70 degrees. It should also be cleaned regularly with hot soapy water.

Feeding Ferrets
Ferrets are carnivores that require at least 22% fat and 34% protein of animal origin. Not recommended them to eat foods for dogs or cats. Chicken and turkey are ideal. Ferrets should never be fed vegetables because they are difficult to digest. Fruits are also an option because it can increase sugars trends insulinoma. Clear egg should be avoided because they can cause hemolytic anemia.

Potty learning
A small 3 to 5 inches tall cardboard box can be used as a litter box for ferrets. Garbage must be guaranteed pans at the side of the cage, far from ferrets to eat and sleep. Bulk of products made of vegetable fibers or paper are recommended to prevent the clumping of fecal matter.
Keeping ferrets
Ferrets tend to produce undesirable odors. To prevent the smell strongly, can be washed using a special ferret shampoo, kitten shampoo, or diluted baby shampoo.
It is not advisable to bathe daily ferrets because their skin is dry, causing excess secretion of oil, bringing the smell more ferret. It is also important to check the ferret mites ears on a regular basis. The ears should be cleaned using cotton soaked in a special cleaner that can be purchased from a pet store.
Possession of ferrets assets
Ferrets are very strong animals. It is advisable to keep entertained with toys that are not easy to break to maintain security of the animal. Ferrets pets can be enjoyable when one knows the proper way to care for them. Behind them can be a fun and exciting experience.
